‘The Bye Bye Man’ Scares Off ‘Monster Trucks,’ ‘Patriot’s Day’ Over Long Weekend

STX’s The Bye Bye Man said hello to some big numbers at the box office this weekend.

More people than expected opted to “think it”, “say it” and see it — The Bye Bye Man, that is.

Rounding out the top five for weekend gross at $15.3 million, the low-budget horror-thriller about college students battling a supernatural entity with a silly name managed to outperform the much higher-budgeted releases of Monster Trucks and Patriot’s Day on its opening weekend.

With a budget of only $7.4 million (via Box Office Mojo), The Bye Bye Man beat projections to earn $5.43 million on Friday the 13th, making it the number 2 film at the box office its first day, narrowly beat by Hidden Figures.

The Bye Bye Man was directed by Stacy Title and stars Carrie-Anne MossFaye DunawayDouglas Smith and Doug Jones.

Did you see The Bye Bye Man at theaters this weekend? If so, what did you think?
