In the way that much of the best American Horror Story news is confirmed, Executive Producer Ryan Murphy has tweeted that ‘Lana Winters,’ played by Sarah Paulson in the second season of of the series, will return for an appearance in the current Roanoke season:

AHS fans (**Season 2 Asylum spoilers ahead**) will remember Lana Winters as the ambitious lesbian-journalist-turned-patient-turned-escapee-turned-torture victim-turned survivor – oh… and let’s not forget that she was also the mother of a certain Bloody Face killer…
That’s all in a day’s work for Sarah Paulson (is there anything this woman cannot do?).
Exactly what role Ms. Winters will play within the current Roanoke storyline is unclear. If you’ve been keeping up with the current season, you know that the main characters from the show-within-a-show, My Roanoke Nightmare, (and their re-enactment actor counterparts) have – for some insane reason – returned to the haunted farmhouse (during the Blood Moon, of course) to film a follow-up reality show called, Return to Roanoke: Three Days in Hell, and that a whole lot of killing, kidnapping and cannibalism has been going on thanks to all the vengeful colonial ghosts, forest witches, rednecks, psychotic/possessed actors and jealous ex-wives running around. Oh, and there’s a pig-man (or is it man-pig) or two in the mix somewhere.
Yeah, we know. If you haven’t been keeping up with the current season, it’s too late to explain now because it’s all crazy at this point.
In any case, it will be interesting to see how Lana Winters is going to tie in the rest of the story. We all know American Horror Story tends to do a lot of non-linear storytelling and jumping around from one time frame to another. In that sense, Ms. Winters could certainly appear in a flashback scene of some kind either from before she was committed to the Asylum or any time after she escaped. However, at the end of Asylum, her character was still alive in the year 2013, so she could most definitely make an appearance in Roanoke during the current modern-day time frame. If she does, we’re worried about her, because it was stated in the Return to Roanoke chyrons that the footage for the show was assembled from found-footage, and that only one person ends up surviving the ordeal.
Hopefully Ms. Winters didn’t survive aaallll that madness and torture at the hands of Sister Jude and her own baby-daddy Dr. Thredson just to end up being slaughtered by the ghost of a crazed colonial madwoman known as the The Butcher, as played by Kathy Bates?
Only time will tell.
American Horror Story airs Wednesdays 10PM ET/PT on FX.
