The teaser trailer and poster for Lionsgate‘s upcoming horror film The Woods dropped today, with early reviews touting that it’s basically the scariest thing since, well, ever.
“There’s something evil hiding in the woods,” the poster and trailer for The Woods tells us. What that something evil is, we’re not quite sure yet… but if the early reviews are to be believed, it’s going to scare us in a way that we’ve never been scared before.
Bloody Disgusting‘s Brad Miska has lavished high praise, calling The Woods “next level,” “a new beginning for horror films,” and “one of the scariest movies ever made,” while JimmyO from JoBlo.com calls it “chilling and intense” and “a truly terrifying cinematic experience.” This sure sounds promising, guys!
Sam Zimmerman of the horror streaming service Shudder had this to say:
Not that we’ve seen the film, but we think “spooky af” would be a great quote to add to their poster, or any poster really…
Directed by Adam Wingard and written by Simon Barrett (the same creative duo behind the smart indie-slasher flick You’re Next), The Woods is so far a bit of a mystery. The teaser reveals very little, and not much is known about the plot, other than the fact that it revolves around a group of college students on a camping trip who discover they are not alone.
The teaser itself, while tantalizing, isn’t overly terrifying. But based on the early hype, it seems Wingard and Barrett may have found a clever way to spin a “spooky af” new angle that will leave us never wanting to go into the woods again.
We’ll just have to wait and discover the evil for ourselves when the The Woods opens in theaters on September 16th.
