Evan! Sarah! Clowns! The election!
After months of speculation, rumor, hint-dropping, clown & bee-themed promos, FX has finally dropped the first trailer for American Horror Story: Cult.
It appears to tell the story of Ally Mayfair Richards (Sarah Paulson) whose coulrophobia ( aka fear of clowns ) escalates after she is traumatized by the results of the 2016 presidential election. Meanwhile, an apparent maniacal cult leader Kai Anderson (Evan Peters) is thrilled with the results of the election before enlisting Winter Anderson (Billie Lourd) to infiltrate Paulson’s home as a nanny, while also sending cult clowns to terrorize Paulson and her wife, Ivy (Allison Pill).
AHS: Freakshow favorite Twisty the Clown makes an appearance in both comic book form and as a doll that Winter gives to Ally and Ivy’s son. Also appearing is AHS regular Cheyenne Jackson, who plays Ally’s therapist.
As for where the story will go from here is anyone’s guess, but Executive Producer Ryan Murphy had previously promised this season would attempt to tackle “the American divide.”
The AHS: Cult trailer comes on the heels of the release of this season’s opening credits sequence, which features clowns, bees, and creepy masks of both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. In case you missed it you can check that out here:
