Enter the chilling world of Castle Rock, the new Hulu Original drama series from Executive Producer J.J. Abrams and the mind of Stephen King.
It can be said that Stephen King is having a moment.
With the wild financial success of the IT reboot, the prolific horror author’s works are in high demand for adaptations, and new King-related projects seem to be announced and/or released monthly.
But the Hulu Original eries Castle Rock is one project that we here at ScarePop are particularly excited about. Executive-produced by JJ Abrams along with writers Sam Shaw and Dustin Thomason, the series is set in the fictional town of Castle Rock, Maine, which is the featured setting for many of King’s novels and stories.
While Castle Rock isn’t written by Stephen King, the psychological horror series was created “in the spirit” of King’s work – incorporating not only the familiar setting and locations (Shawshank prison, for example), but also themes and even some familiar characters. Specific plot details remain sparse, but according to a press release, the series “combines the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of King’s best-loved works, weaving an epic saga of darkness and light, played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland.”
Castle Rock‘s notable cast include André Holland, Bill Skarsgård, Sissy Spacek, Melanie Lynskey and Jane Levy to name a few.
Produced by Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions and Warner Bros. Television for Hulu, Castle Rock is set to premiere in 2018. In the meantime, I suggest you get busy living or get busy dying… or else you’ll float too!
