LA Paranormal and The Halloween Experience present:
QUEEN MARY’S DARK HARBOR 2015 Haunt Review.
QUEEN MARY’S DARK HARBOR returns for another season of Halloween screams, featuring six mazes, 200 monsters led by the RINGMASTER, and live entertainment. Bonus for paranormal fans – the historic ship is also known to be haunted! Now in her fifth season as creative director of Dark Harbor, JJ Whickham has made full use of the Queen Mary’s haunted history to unleash a haunted attraction for the ages.
When you walk into the event, it feels epic, atmospheric and alive with ghouls and ghosts all hungry for new souls.
Despite its large scale feel, Dark Harbor manages to keep all its attractions within a reasonably tight radius thanks to its well-thought-out layout. Unlike some of the other, bigger Halloween attractions, there are no 15-minute journeys to get from one attraction to the next.
RETURNING MAZES:
CIRCUS-BIG TOP TERROR
Clowns are typically an overused theme in Halloween mazes, but Circus-Big Top Terror is a fun take on the genre. Be sure to watch your step in one section or you might find yourself a permanent member of the maze.
DEADRISE-THE DEPTHS OF DARKNESS
Sporting an amazing façade of a long-wrecked ship, Dead Rise takes you into the depths of a ghost ship where you have to escape its ghostly crew. This maze is creepy, intense and saves one of its best scares for last.
SOULMATE-TIL DEATH DO US PART
Located on the ship, SOULMATE is a gory take on romance gone wrong as Graceful Gale looks to assemble her perfect undead lover. It’s a theme you’d expect to see in AMERICAN HORROR STORY and it’s pulled off beautifully. The look of the scare actors, especially Graceful Gale is exceptional.
BD340-A DESCENT INTO INSANITY
Located on the ship, BD340 makes great use of ship’s actual interiors leading you into the engine room of the Queen Mary. This is one maze where you can look behind the veil and get a sense of the creepy history of the ship known as the “Grey Ghost”.
VODOO VILLAGE-THE SWAMP OF DEATH
The Ringmaster gets into the terror as gypsies from her circus have overtaken Voodoo Village. The sets are impressive and the swampy voodoo theme is enjoyable. Take some extra time going through this maze and enjoy the truly impressive level of detail put into every room.
NEW MAZE:
LULLABY-HUSH, HUSH DON’T CRY
Another maze located on the ship, LULLABY is the must-do attraction of Dark Harbor. Based on the real life haunting, this maze is equal parts THE SHINING and PARANORMAL WITNESS. Scary and atmospheric, the twists and turns lead you to the pool where “Scary Mary” drowned. It’s a show stopper.
If you need to take a break from the mazes, Dark Harbor is bursting at the seams with live entertainment on the main stage along with side attractions like the CURSE OF ANUBIS-PAINTBALL ADVENTURE and SIDESHOW OF FREAKS AND ODDITIES. And to stay refreshed throughout your haunting experience, you can belly up to the RIP Bar or even seek refuge for you and your friends from the chaos of Dark Harbor in a fancy private cabana, complete with bottle service.
Queen Mary’s Dark Harbor is a one-of-a-kind Halloween attraction that is a must for lovers of haunted attractions and the paranormal. If you want the full experience, be sure to book a room aboard the Queen Mary and just maybe you’ll encounter something that truly goes bump in the night.
