Apparently New York City is going to have a rather spooky summer…
First, we found out that there’s a recreation of the Psycho house on top of the Met Museum, then, we learned that there’s a new Tim Burton-themed bar called Beetle House in the East Village, and now, we discover that there’s going to be an immersive Ghostbusters experience in Williamsburg, Brooklyn next month.
You may have already heard that Fathom Events is bringing back the original Ghostbusters (1984) film to movie theaters nationwide on June 8th – the anniversary of the classic comedy’s release.
Well, in Brooklyn, fans will be able to go a step further with the Ghostbusters HQ experience. Produced by BBQ Films in conjunction with Sony Pictures Entertainment and Fathom Events, the Ghostbusters HQ event will be housed in a Williamsburg venue space converted to resemble the firehouse HQ from the original movie, and which will feature “a 360-degree interactive experience with live Ghostbusters characters, themed rooms, screens showing the film, and, of course, ghosts.”
Fans are invited to “strap on a proton pack, grab a trap, and head for the Ecto-1.”A “New Recruit” ticket will gain you access to the headquarters for a screening of 1984’s Ghostbusters, plus “hands-on training with ghostbustin’ gear, tutorials from our team of paranormal scientists, personal ghost sighting consultations and a limited-edition poster.” For an extra fee, a “Friend of Slimer” ticket adds reserved seating, free drinks and a commemorative gift.
Other activities available at the event: “Apply to be a Ghostbuster, report local paranormal activity,” and “Honor decades of Ghostbustin’ history.” And, according to the folks at Gothamist, there may even be a surprise cameo or two on deck.
The HQ event is meant to be a celebration of the beloved original Ivan Reitman-helmed Ghostbusters film starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver and Harold Ramis, but, it’s also part of the marketing campaign for the upcoming Paul Feig-directed, female-led reboot – the existence of and trailer of which has had – to say the least – mixed reactions.
Love or hate the idea of the reboot, the immersive Ghostbusters HQ event sounds like it could be fun. If this were happening in Los Angeles, we’d certainly be down (’cause bustin’ makes us feel good). What do you guys think?
In the meantime, why not watch this semi-unrelated yet somehow perfectly fitting Epic Rap Battle between the Ghostbusters and the Mythbusters?
