“The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance” is a brand new series based on the Jim Henson classic film.
If you’re a child of the ’80’s – ’90’s and/or a fantasy dork like me, you will remember fondly The Dark Crystal (1982), the visionary Jim Henson / Frank Oz collaboration that brought us some of the weirdest, creepiest, coolest, most memorable creatures around in the form of Skeksis, Mystics and Gelflings.
Now Netflix is re-exploring that world with a 10-episode revival series, which they released a teaser for today.
Per Netflix:
Rediscover the age of wonder inspired by Jim Henson’s groundbreaking vision. Netflix Original Series ‘The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance’ coming soon.
In the teaser, we see flashbacks to the painstaking and loving work that went into creating the fantasy world and creatures of the original film, with a young Jim Henson talking about his love and passion for the project.
“It’s probably the hardest thing that I’ve ever worked on. I think of it as sort of a work of art…It was the most work, it was the most difficult – but it was the most fun, it was the most rewarding, and of all projects, it’s the one that I’m the most proud of.”
According to Variety, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is a prequel that “returns to the world of Thra with an all new adventure. When three Gelfling discover the horrifying secret behind the Skeksis’ power, they set out on an epic journey to ignite the fires of rebellion and save their world.”
Louis Leterrier (Now You See Me) will direct and executive produce along with the Jim Henson Company.
